Handcrafted picture frames made from a single locally sourced oak tree in Illinois.
This collection began with an old oak tree. It stood for decades before time and weather took their toll. When it finally came down, we saw more than firewood. We saw material with history, character, and wood that had already lived a long life.
Rather than letting it disappear, we chose to carry it forward. The tree was milled locally, shaped slowly, and turned into custom picture frame moulding by the same hands that frame artwork in our shop every day.
Forest to Frame is not a concept. It’s a continuation of craft, care, and respect for the material.
The Process — From Tree to Frame
1. The Tree
A single oak tree, responsibly removed and preserved for reuse.
2. The Mill
The logs were milled locally, allowing the grain, density, and imperfections to guide the final form.
3. The Moulding
Each length of moulding was shaped, sanded, and finished in small batches, not mass-produced.
4. The Frame
Every frame is built to high quality standards, designed to protect what matters and last for generations.
A Finite Collection
Each Forest to Frame piece is made from the same oak, shaped by hand, and finished with the same care we bring to every custom framing project. No two frames are exactly alike. The grain tells the story.
Because this collection comes from a single tree, the material is inherently limited. When the wood is gone, it’s gone. There are no reorders. No replicas. Just a finite number of frames made from a moment in time.
Forest to Frame photo frames are available exclusively at our Bloomingdale and Evanston shops. Stop in to see the collection in person.
